Blog Post #7- The End

So more deaths, obviously. Only 3 I believe this time. Wait, actually 4. So the first one he blew up one of the guys with a bomb. Pretty gruesome. On the streets of New York City too. Then the last 3 he shot, killed, and then burned. One of his friends turned on him too! The one that was hacking computers and helping him find people turned out to be a double agent. This guy is now dead.

So to paint the picture for everyone, he had one of his pilot friends fly him to New Hampshire and he went to a little cabin. Well, his hacking friend, Ben, knew he was going there and he told the head people of this operation. So they sent Navy SEALS to go and kill him. However, Reece is like the smartest guy alive and he was able to escape. Then he went and made bombs with Liz, his pilot friend, and then he got a Sprinter van and pulled up alongside this guy’s car and blew him up. Then he was able to get away from that. Then he got on a boat with one of his old SEAL teammates who we don’t know much about just that he was one of his best friends. He got to the little island where the last two people were. He stalked them and he walked in and they were all there, along with Katie, the reporter lady. They had captured her to try to get Reece to flip and turn himself in and she becomes free. However, he had set a bomb on one of the cars outside and it blew up and he killed Ben and the two others. One of them was most likely going to be President of the USA so that’s nice. Then he and Katie escaped and he got her to Liz and gave her a whole bunch of information to write about to make him seem good. And then he sailed away and he says he’s gonna die to the sea or his tumor, cause he wants to die. But…. on his old phone, there is a message from the brain surgeon saying his tumor isn’t that bad and he can likely remove it! One thing though, Reece doesn’t have his old phone so I’m not sure how that would go.

So that was a lot, but I had to explain it all to make sense. I would rate the book probably an 8.5/10. Maybe a 9. The book felt a little redundant in some parts with him killing everyone. And there was no major setback. Other than his friend turning on him, he still managed to kill everyone and it didn’t really affect it. There are other books in the series so maybe if I get really bored I’ll read them. Maybe.

There is also a show about the first book. Could be a good break watch. I’ve heard the show is good so I could give it a chance.

I’m still not sure what the theme of the book could be. Vengence maybe? Or I guess I could still go with the doing good by doing bad things. Cause I think it’s completely justified, but it’s kind of frowned upon to go around killing everyone.

Since there are more books in the series, I wonder what really happens to Reece? He needs to get his name cleared and it sounded like he wants to reconnect with his wife and daughter who were killed. Maybe Katie could do something? I’m just not quite sure I guess.

Blog Post #6- Reece Has Gone Nation Wide

So Reece has continued his killing spree. That’s basically the only thing going on it seems like. I feel like it’s getting a little repetitive. He kills everyone in different ways, which could be interesting, but nothing else is happening.

So they found out about the Muslim guy, I mean Reece put his head on the fence so it makes sense. He also threw an ISIS flag next to him so they think it was racially motivated. He then sent one of the bad guys to the Admiral’s office. However, the bad guy had C4 and nails strapped to him to Reece called him and it set off the C4 bomb, and the Admiral and the bad guy blew up and it looked like a terrorist attack. The bad guys are getting really worried.

I feel like eventually he is going to get caught, somehow in a bad situation. He already almost did. He also was questioning all of this with one of his close friends. He doesn’t like that killing is so natural. It got pretty gory especially with one guy and I don’t know how he does it. He is like a machine.

I feel like a potential theme would be doing right by doing wrong. If that makes sense. Cause he’s doing the right thing, but not necessarily doing it ethically or how it should go. All readers would cheer him on cause what happened to him was awful, but the way he goes about it is not how most would. I think it’s justified, but at what cost to him?

I also wonder how much longer it is before he breaks down. He has gone through a lot and I wonder if it will catch up to him. Maybe they find the reporter lady and this is what gets him to flip. Or his hacking friend. Or some of the others that have helped him. Clearly he is loyal and I could see something like that happening and him having to save one of them while also trying to do what’s right. Sort of like a lot of other movies and books.

Blog Post #5- Stone Cold Killer

A background would be this book is about a Navy SEAL, Reece, who has a brain tumor, and all of his SEAL Team and family got killed. They are trying to kill him now. Reece believes they are trying to kill him because a company tested drugs on his SEAL Team and some of them developed brain tumors so they have to get rid of the evidence and kill them all.

For the craft, the author, Jack Carr, uses a storytelling way to tell it. He is very descriptive and does a great job at explaining how each situation is. Sometimes he can be a bit vague and let the reader’s mind wander when it comes to potential problems that could be happening to the characters and solutions but is straight to the point with his storytelling.

I have had trouble grasping what the theme could be. I have a basic idea that it is good vs. evil, but to get something deeper is hard. Maybe once I know the end of the book I would be able to get something deeper. Maybe something with revenge or trust, but definitely having a little trouble.

A potential theme could be good versus evil, but the world is deeper than that. I think most would agree that Reece is the “good” and the people out to kill him are “bad”, but Reece is certainly no angel.

So a lot of deaths happened in this section. I think it was 2. The first guy was one of the guys who knew a lot about the plans and Reece waterboarded him until he agreed to give him secrets. Then he got him really drunk and he was spilling lots of secrets. Then he passed out and Reece mixed up his drugs and drugged the guy, eventually killing him.

He also went after the gangsters that killed his wife and daughter. He had his Mexican-American friend help him get across the border and he snuck into their safehouse and killed them all.

One of the secrets from the drugged guy was about this Muslim guy in California who was funding ISIS I believe back in the Middle East. On the surface, the Muslim guy seems like a “good” Muslim, when in reality he is supporting terrorists. So Reece talks with his friend Ben, who helped him hack things, and he gets him set up with a plan. Reece goes to interview him under a different name pretending he’s a college student doing research. However, things turn ugly and Reece cuts him up with a tomahawk, and yeah, really gory.

Something similar to what he killed the Muslim leader with, it symbolizes all his pain and anger being let out. He really let loose on this guy. I think it’s because this guy was behind his teammate’s death and he blames himself for their deaths.

I feel like a lot happened in this section while also not a lot happening in this section. He still hasn’t had a setback which kind of bothers me. I guess when he was fighting the Muslim guy he had this blinding pain in his head from his tumor, but it only lasted for a second before he finished him off.

The section ended with him getting ready to break into one of the guy’s apartments to kill him too.

Blog Post #4-They Really Underestimated Reece

A quick background check for any new people, Reece was a SEAL Team leader, and in Afghanistan, his whole team died except for him and his friend. This was very suspicious because the intel on the mission seemed almost perfect and they got ambushed like the enemy knew their plans. He gets back to America and is blamed for the mission and his other friend who made it dies by suicide. Then his daughter and wife are killed by gangsters with machine guns at his house where he was supposed to be at the time but was held up at the base…….

So Norman, we might have a lead here on why they’re killing everyone. I think I said he has a brain tumor. Well, he’s pretty sure he’s dying from his brain tumor or will die from it. Suspiciously, I think about 3 of his teammates also had a brain tumor. All very rare brain tumors so the chances are low that they all just randomly got it. So Reece’s idea is that the guys behind it, tested a medication on him and his guys and the medication went bad, hence the brain tumors, and now they are trying to cover it up by killing them all before it gets released. It seems like a good lead. Definitely makes sense.

A lot happened in this section. First off, he went to meet the reporter lady to find his new theories and research he has. They go to a genuine Chinese restaurant where everyone is speaking Mandarin and there is cigarette smoke all over, definitely against California laws. It’s also in the heart of Chinatown. So he meets her there and he’s kind of questioning why she’s helping him so much. It comes out that her parents used to live in Czechoslovakia and Reese’s dad helped save her parents from the communists. His dad was treated like royalty in their house for saving their lives cause the reporter’s dad was giving secrets to the U.S. which would land him in big trouble. I always forget her name, but that was a cool connection. She feels like she owes him something back.

However, there is a man waiting outside the restaurant with a pistol. When they leave, Reece notices him watching them and sees the pistol sitting in his lap while he’s in his car. Reece tackles the reporter and shoots the guy who is going to kill them. I believe the guy was from Pakistan. Somewhere in the Middle East. Then Reece and the reporter ran away and he told her to go to her brothers in a remote town to be safe. I think he escaped away though because all the reports said it was just a white guy, no leads.

Then he went to a club and he bought drugs. I think he’s going to try to drug one of the people cause he smashed them up into a little powder. Would just look like an overdose/

And he finally killed one of the guys. It was in Wyoming and he sat on top of a ridge and sniped him while he was on the Interstate. Close to 700 yards I think. Police just thought it was a hunting accident because deer season opened that same day. He’s having a lot of good luck so far in not getting caught.

I’m wondering if the reporter is going to be safe. The “bad guys” said her car was new enough to track it so they might track it and then get her and use her as like a trade piece. Cause he seems to care about her so they might be able to get him that way. He also was missing his daughter in this section a little bit too. He slept in their house for one last time because he wanted to be with them one last time. So maybe he is grieving a little bit. He was thinking about his last time he was with his daughter before he left.

Before he left on his deployment where everyone died he went camping with his family. He was talking about how they made s’mores together and she was wondering why he had to leave.

Blog Post #3- Stealth Time

Reece really has nothing left to lose. He is going to bring down everyone that killed his family and his SEAL Teammates. He’s been stalking people involved and finding out who is all involved in it. He plans to take them out because all he has left is his will to fight.

Reece has been hacking into computers with a little help from one of his old friends to figure out the plot behind it all.

I’m still having a great time getting to know Reece. I really enjoy how smart he is and he is constantly analyzing situations around him, it’s very impressive. I think most people would enjoy his take on things. The book is mostly about him against the world, along with the help of a few friends. We’ll see if they stay true to their friendship.

One thing I’m not enjoying so much about the book is sometimes the author switches perspectives and it can be hard to keep them straight. It’s a little annoying. That and I guess not knowing the plot behind all the killing is bugging me too, but it leads up to a better plot and the reader can connect it all together. Build up the hype a little bit too.

I feel like Reece is going to keep finding out the information. I feel like it’s gone pretty well for him so far, so I’m curious to see what his next setback could be. I also don’t know if this is Reese’s way of coping, but he has not mourned his family a lot. Like his daughter and wife were machine-gunned down in their house by gangsters. I get that he’s looking for revenge against the people who took everything away from him, but I feel like it would be a little harder for him. Could be his military background too.

Blog Post #2- Everyone really is dead

Hola, it’s still going good. Sadly, his wife and daughter got killed in a gang attack. Cause gangs always attack the nice parts of cities, not. Reece has nothing left now in his life. There is an obvious plot to take out him and his team so part of that is accomplished. Did I mention he has a tumor on his brain too?

Reece has a tumor on his brain to go along with all the problems he now has to face.

So Reece beat up an admiral. I think the admiral is in on the plot to take them out because he wants to charge Reece with many crimes, but doesn’t want him in jail. I’m still not sure what the motive is behind that. Reece also will be locked out of the Naval station so after he beat up the admiral and broke his nose, he went and took some weapons to take with him. He has nothing to lose so I expect him to take people out.

Could this happen in real life? I mean maybe, but I’ve never heard of things similar. Maybe in shows but never in real life. The author is also a retired Navy SEAL, so he would know if this is more plausible than I do.

I still really like Reece. He is pretty composed for all that he went through and definitely thinks and is constantly analyzing situations around him. I think whoever is behind all of this underestimated his ability. We kind of know who is behind it, his last name is Horn. I’m not sure if he is the head guy, but we’ve had a chapter or two from his perspective.

I feel like Reece is going to go off the grid. He doesn’t want to be found. He has one person left that he trusts, a reporter he met in Afghanistan I believe. He texts her the information he finds out, I think he wants the story to get out. I think he is going to go off-grid and find information, maybe like a spy.

The way the story has flown is still going good so far, this section was a little slower than the last one but still a lot of things happening.

I wish I knew what the motive was behind all of this. It kinda bugs me. Like why would they do all of this? And why are other Navy personnel in on the plot? What has Reece done wrong, he’s served around 15 years and sacrificed all he had for the Navy so why him?

1st Post- Everyone is dead

Hello, so far so good on the book. It was a good read and I sadly got left on a cliffhanger. I haven’t decided if the plot could happen in real life, although I’m sure it’s possible. Maybe not to the level the book is, but I guess weirder things have happened. So far we’ve only really met one character. There have been others, but we only have really learned about him. The character’s name is James Reece, but he mostly goes by his last name Reece. Reece is a Navy SEAL Team Leader and he just got his whole team killed in Afghanistan.

A Navy SEAL in Afghanistan.

Reece is a character that I think many could fall in love with. He is very smart guy. He’s also kind of a smart-ass, especially during his interrogation about his operation. There is a plot to kill all of these guys, but I don’t know much about why or who yet. Not much has happened further the plot or show big ideas. I am really wondering about what is going to happen next because the book ends with him being beaten up by police and taken away. I think this has something to do with the objective to kill him because he survived the attack in Afghanistan.

I’ve been able to connect some TV shows to the book I am reading, one was a show about this ex-military guy who was a sniper who got framed for shooting the president. I think it’s called Shooter. The other TV show I was able to connect this too was a series about this Navy SEAL team and all the missions they go on. That is called SEAL Team. I enjoyed both of those shows so I’m assuming I will also enjoy this book.

So far I’ve really liked the way the book has flown. There haven’t been any slow parts and it was able to keep me turning the page. The 55 pages didn’t feel like much. I look forward to seeing how the author progresses the book.

0.5 Starter Post

I am reading the book The Terminal List by Jack Carr. I picked the book because it sounds like it has a lot of action and I like action. Mrs. C helped me pick out a book and we got it down to two options, the other option was Memorial Day by Vince Flynn. I was struggling to decide between the two books and texted my mom cause Mrs. C said she read books like this since Mrs. C used to be the librarian. I look forward to reading his point of view as usually my favorite TV shows and movies have to deal with war or spy missions, something along those lines. I guess I’m not really apprehensive about anything, I think I will enjoy the book even though I’m not a big reading guy. It sounds like it is a well-flowing book and will pique my interest. To ensure my success I’m going to do read daily and enough each day that I get it done. I look forward to reading the book.

Yes

Yes, these accounts changed the audience. While it might be a big amount of people that got changed, I think they still affected a portion of the audience. Red Clouds definitely affected people because he was speaking to a crowd and had all of the attention on him. Then I would say de las Casas changed the second most people because he was trying to persuade people and move them. Last would be Columbus’ just because it is like a personal diary and he gave it to the Royals and not mass published.
